Description
Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) has light yellow-brown to pinkish wood with a more pronounced pattern of annual rings. Sapwood is lighter, whitish to light yellowish and is usually easily distinguishable from the heartwood. The structure is mainly straight, with a typical texture of coniferous wood.
The wood is relatively strong and flexible and retains its shape well after drying. Thanks to its even structure, it is easy to work with and is suitable for various types of craft processing.
It is easy to cut, mill and turn during processing. The surface can be easily sanded and treated with oil, wax or varnish, which will highlight the natural pattern of annual rings. During processing, a subtle sweet aroma, which is typical of Douglas fir.
