Tulipwood
Tulipwood (Dalbergia decipularis)
Occurrence: northeastern Brazil, Other names: Bahia Rosewood, Brazilian Tulipwood, Properties: hard and dense wood with a high oil content, which is difficult to work with by hand, but turns and polishes well.
Tulipwood, also known as Bahia Rosewood, is one of the most colorful and attractive tropical wood species. The wood is extremely decorative, with an unmistakable combination of pink, purple, and yellow tones. It is hard, fine-grained, and very dense, ideal for smaller work—turning, jewelry making, inlay, handles for luxury knives, or decorative items.
Tulipwood is valued not only for its appearance, but also for its strength, stability, and excellent polishability. After machining and polishing, it acquires a natural luster and a smooth, almost silky surface that further enhances the rich color of the wood.
