Indian Rosewood
Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) is a premium tropical hardwood native primarily to India and Indonesia. It is one of the most well-known rosewood species, valued for its high density, strength, and distinctive grain.
The heartwood ranges from dark brown to purplish brown, often featuring darker streaks and contrasting veining. The sapwood is significantly lighter, from yellowish to pale gray, and is usually clearly separated from the heartwood.
The grain is typically straight to slightly irregular, with a fine to medium texture. A characteristic feature of rosewoods is their striking natural figure, which becomes even more pronounced after finishing.
The wood is hard, strong, and relatively heavy. Sharp tools are recommended for machining, but when properly worked, it can achieve a very smooth, almost silky surface. When treated with oil, wax, or lacquer, the color deepens and the natural grain is enhanced.
In this category, you will find smaller pieces of Indian Rosewood ideal for knife handles, tool handles, woodturning, wooden jewelry, and other small craft or decorative projects.
