Maple
Maple (genus Acer) is a deciduous hardwood tree widely distributed across the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. In Europe, it is a common and widely available wood species traditionally used in woodworking and craftsmanship.
Maple wood is typically light in color, ranging from nearly white to creamy or pale yellow. In some cases, it may show subtle pinkish or golden tones. The grain is usually fine, even, and unobtrusive, giving the wood a clean and elegant appearance.
The structure is fine and dense, allowing for a very smooth surface after machining. Growth rings are usually subtle but can create a delicate natural pattern. Occasionally, more decorative figures such as curly or birdseye grain may occur.
Maple is a strong and highly workable hardwood. It machines well, whether sawn, turned, milled, or sanded. Thanks to its density, it allows for precise detail work and an exceptionally smooth finish. For this reason, maple is considered one of the best woods for woodturning and fine craftsmanship.
It accepts finishes well, although due to its density, staining can sometimes be slightly uneven.
In this category, you will find maple wood particularly suitable for woodturning, small wooden items, handles, jewelry, and detailed craft projects.
