Description

Leopardwood (Roupala montana, Roupala brasiliense) is an exotic hardwood known for its highly distinctive spotted grain pattern resembling leopard fur. The heartwood is light to medium brown with dark irregular spots formed by the natural structure of the pores. The sapwood is lighter, ranging from yellowish to light brown.

The wood is medium-hard to hard, relatively dense and durable. It cuts, turns, sands, and polishes well, although sharp tools are recommended due to its varying structure. After finishing with oil or wax, the contrast and decorative spotted figure become more pronounced.

Leopardwood is especially popular for:

  • knife handles
  • tool handles
  • woodturning projects
  • wooden jewelry
  • decorative items
  • decorative wood accessories

Each piece is unique, with its own distinctive grain pattern that can vary significantly depending on the cut.
