Recommended Applications

The 3M Scotch-Brite SC-BL Type T polishing belt contains no abrasive grain and is designed primarily for final polishing of metal surfaces with a suitable polishing compound:

Description

3M Scotch-Brite SC-BL Type T is a white non-woven polishing belt without abrasive grain, designed for final polishing of metal surfaces. It is used together with a suitable polishing compound, which provides the polishing action and allows the belt to be adapted to the particular material and desired surface finish.

The flexible non-woven material conforms well to shaped and curved surfaces. The reinforced backing construction also helps reduce unwanted belt stretching during use. SC-BL Type T is suitable for final polishing of steel, stainless steel, titanium, aluminium, brass and other metals.

Stropping Knife Edges

The 3M Scotch-Brite SC-BL Type T polishing belt can also be used for final stropping of knife edges and other cutting tools. The belt helps remove fine burrs that may remain on the edge after grinding.

For stropping, the belt can be used on its own or with a suitable polishing compound, depending on the desired result.

Safety Warning

When polishing or stropping an edge, the cutting edge must never face against the direction of belt travel. Always present the knife or other cutting tool with the cutting edge pointing in the same direction as the moving belt.

If used in the wrong direction, the cutting edge may catch in the soft non-woven material, damaging the belt and potentially causing the tool to be dangerously pulled from your hands.
