Description

Turkish Hazel (Corylus colurna) is a moderately hard hardwood with a fine, subtle grain and a pleasantly warm appearance. The color ranges from light brown to honey-golden shades, sometimes with a subtle reddish tone.

The wood is dense and tough, yet works very well with both hand tools and lathes. During turning and handcrafting it offers good stability and produces a smooth, clean finish. Thanks to its fine structure, it is also suitable for small and detailed projects.

After treatment with oil or wax, the wood develops a warmer and deeper tone that enhances its subtle natural grain.

Turkish Hazel is especially popular for:

  • knife handles
  • small handles and grips
  • woodturning projects
  • wooden jewelry and small accessories
  • inlays
  • decorative and handcrafted items

One of the interesting characteristics of this wood is its understated appearance – it does not feature strong contrasts, making it ideal for projects where shape, detail, and craftsmanship should stand out more than bold grain patterns.

Each piece is unique, although variations between individual pieces tend to remain subtle and elegant.
